The Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) and China Media Group (CMG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening tourism cooperation between Namibia and China through strategic media collaboration, destination marketing, and cultural exchange.
A statement released by NTB Manager: Stakeholders Engagement and Corporate Communication and Public Relations Officer Flora Quest on Wednesday said the agreement which was signed during the State Visit of President Netumbo Nandi- Ndaitwah to China last week , marks another significant milestone in the growing bilateral relations between the two countries.
“The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for collaboration between NTB and CMG in promoting Namibia and China as tourism destinations. Areas of cooperation include the production of tourism programmes, joint promotional campaigns, exhibitions, media exchanges, tourism-related projects, and initiatives that foster greater cultural understanding between the two nations,” Quest said.
SHe said the agreement further provides for specific projects to be implemented through separate agreements, ensuring that each initiative is clearly defined, costed, and mutually agreed upon.
China Media Group is one of the world’s largest multimedia organisations, with an extensive international audience across television, radio, digital platforms, and social media.
Quest said the collaboration is expected to provide Namibia with increased exposure within the Chinese market while supporting the country’s efforts to diversify source markets and attract high-value international visitors.
The MoU is valid for an initial period of one year and reflects the commitment of both organisations to work together in promoting sustainable tourism development while respecting each party’s mandate and applicable laws.
According to Quest the agreement does not create financial obligations for either party, with any future projects to be negotiated and approved independently.
“As global tourism continues its recovery and expansion, the Namibia Tourism Board remains committed to forging meaningful partnerships that position Namibia as a premier tourism destination offering authentic experiences, exceptional hospitality, and endless opportunities for exploration,” she said.
