The government is calling on Chinese investors to deepen their involvement in the country’s green energy sector, particularly in green hydrogen and ammonia production.
International relations minister, Selma Ashipala‑Musavyi, told media practitioners on Thursday in Windhoek, that the ministry has observed growing interest from Asian investors, and that the government is encouraging them to take advantage of these opportunities.
Ashipala‑Musavyi said this push is part of a broader strategy to diversify the economy, expand export markets, and create investment opportunities in renewable energy.
She also added that the government welcomes the one-year extension of AGOA and sees it as an opportunity to strengthen Namibia’s trade with the United States, while seeking clarity on the 15% tariffs previously imposed on Namibian goods.
Ashipala‑Musavyi says Namibia is pushing for accelerated implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area, stressing Africa must trade more among itself, and add value to its resources to compete globally rather than remaining a supplier of raw materials.
