President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has rallied both public and private sector to work together to find urgent solutions to the country’s teething problems including unequal distribution of wealth, high levels of poverty, unemployment and slow economic growth.
Speaking at the ongoing inaugural Public -Private Sector Forum on Thursday Nandi-Ndatiwah told the public and private sectors that ‘time for talk shows is over’.
She said she is willing to take ‘very bold’ ideas from across the sectors to improve the standard of living for Namibians.
“When you asked me how many days you needed I budgeted my time for these two days. I encourage you to come up with very bold ideas within these two days. Do not impress me by telling me what you think I want to hear. Even if we have to make each other angry to find a solution it is fine, All I want is to serve the Namibian people and make their lives better,” Nandi-Ndaitwah told various captains of industry and government officials in attendance.
The President said Namibia continues to struggle with persistent socio-economic challenges including “the triple threat of unemployment, poverty and inequality,” since independence.
She said Namibia is among the most unequal societies in the world.
“These challenges not only undermine human dignity but also threaten our social cohesion and national security. Yet, our history reminds us that Namibia has never been defined by adversity, but by our ability to overcome it,” she said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said both government and private seto have a vital role to play in improving Namibia;s economic fortunes.
“My message to you is clear: the government needs you. I need you. Namibia needs you. Let us work together to confront the challenges that stand between us and prosperity. Over the next two days, I urge you to bring forward your best ideas and boldest proposals to drive sustainable economic growth for our people,” She said.
