The Namibia Cyber Security Incident Response Team (NAM-CSIRT), housed at the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia has confirmed a cybersecurity breach incident involving the network infrastructure and systems belonging to the Namibia Airports Company (NAC).
In a statement on Monday NAM-CSIRT said the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) detected the incident following unusual network interruptions and operational anomalies.
NAC promptly activated its internal response procedures, successfully containing the incident’s impact, they said.
“Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility. Incidents such as this serve as an important reminder for organisations across all sectors to strengthen their cyber resilience and remain vigilant against evolving digital threats,” said Mufaro Nesongano, Executive: Communication and Consumer Relations at CRAN.
The statement said recovery and restoration efforts are underway, including measures to eradicate the source of the disruption.
NAM-CSIRT and NAC are working in close collaboration to enhance cybersecurity resilience and ensure a coordinated response.
NAM-CSIRT called on all organisations to strengthen their cybersecurity posture by implementing robust security controls, enforcing governance of security policies, activating multifactor authentication, and ensuring real-time monitoring of security events.
NAM-CSIRT said they remain committed to transparency and will continue to keep stakeholders informed of any significant developments without compromising the integrity of the investigation.
MeanwhileNAC said the incident involved unauthorised access to network infrastructure and administrative accounts.
“Immediate containment measures were implemented, and remediation is currently in progress. Services were restored and operational disruption has been assessed as limited. At this stage, there is no evidence of data exfiltration, though investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of the incident. NAC is working closely with its service providers and cybersecurity partners to strengthen defenses, assess potential risks, and prevent recurrence,” a statement released by the NAC said.
The NAC added that , “We take the security of our systems and the trust of our stakeholders seriously. Additional safeguards, including enhanced firewall controls, restricted administrative access, and improved monitoring, have already been deployed. NAC will continue to provide updates as the investigation progresses and remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and operational resilience across all airports.”
