President Netumbo Nandi -Ndaitwah has appointed current minister of Defence Frans Kapofi to take over the ministry of industry, mines and energy on an interim basis.
He replaces the fired former Deputy Prime Minister Natangue Ithete.
In a statement the presidency said “In exercising her constitutional mandate under Article 32(3)(i)(dd) of the Constitution of the Republic of Namibia, Her Excellency Dr. Netumbo Nandi- Ndaitwah has appointed Hon. Frans Kapofi, Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, to oversee the portfolio of Industries, Mines and Energy on an interim
basis.”
President Nandi-Ndaitwah had earlier assumed responsibility for the Ministry of
Industries, Mines and Energy to ensure continuity in leadership and the
uninterrupted delivery of services following recent changes in its leadership.
“Acting within the bounds of the Namibian Constitution, the President is empowered to assign or reassign ministerial functions where necessary to maintain the effective operation of Government, “ the Presidency said.
The Presidency added that the appointment of Kapofi ensures continued leadership and coordination within a Ministry that remains central to Namibia’s industrialisation, mining, and energy transformation agenda, while allowing for the orderly identification and appointment of a suitable candidate in due course.
The President reaffirmed that Government work must proceed with discipline, urgency, and accountability, in keeping with the guiding principles of the 8th Administration and the priorities outlined under the Sixth National Development
Plan (NDP6).
