THE City of Windhoek and PowerCom on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will see the installation of more Closed Circuit Television ( CCTV to improve safety come to fruition on the city’s roads.
The two parties said parties said the MoU will improve cooperation and speed up the city’s digital transformation plans.

Speaking at the signing ceremony City of Windhoek mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja said he collaboration is a testament to our shared commitment to harnessing innovative technologies and strategic partnerships to transform Windhoek into a smart, inclusive, and sustainable city by 2027
“The technological landscape of Namibia is evolving rapidly, and the City of Windhoek is determined to be at the forefront of this transformation. By joining forces with PowerCom Namibia (Pty) Ltd, a key player in expanding digital connectivity and community development, we are laying a strong foundation for enhanced service delivery, improved infrastructure, and greater economic opportunities for all our residents,” the mayor said.

She said the partnership between the two entities aligns with the city’s vision to address the pressing challenges of urbanisation, improved safety, and sustainable urban growth.
PowerCom Chief Executive Officer Beatus Amadhila said the partnership witht he city shows a shared responsibility to improve digitalisation of services.
It is imperative that we do not operate in isolation if we are to achieve these goals and objectives! Therefore; this initiative is not just about technology! It is about partnership, it is about taking collective action to make our city safer, smarter and conducive for families, businesses, residents and all visitors alike,” she said.

She added that , “ we are proud to support the installation of CCTV cameras at selected high-risk and strategic areas around the city—leveraging our network tower infrastructure to give law enforcement a vital technological edge in their fight against crime amongst others,” Amadhila said.

She said PowerCom is currently finalising the installation of CCTV cameras at seven identified sites in the next two Months.
“ For the 2025/2026 FY a further provision for x15 to X20 sites is being finalised and upon approval the final plan shall be submitted to the City in line with the terms of the MoU and subsequent installation. We anticipate making similar commitments for the ensuing financial years for as long as it takes,” she added.
