President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed State House Chief of Protocol Leonard Iipumbu as the new Namibian Ambassador to Angola.

Iipumbu has  over three decades of experience in international relations, governance, and public administration. 

He previously served as Namibia’s Ambassador to the United States of America, with concurrent accreditation to Brazil, Canada, and Mexico,.

He was also Ambassador to France, with additional responsibilities for Italy, Portugal, and Spain. 

He also represented Namibia at UNESCO.

Iipumbu holds a Master’s Degree in International Services from the American University in Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Financial Management from the Institut Supérieur de Gestion (ISG) in Paris, France.

A veteran of Namibia’s liberation struggle, he served in the People’s Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) and represented SWAPO in Zambia, Botswana, and the People’s Republic of Congo.

“As Ambassador to Angola, Iipumbu will focus on strengthening the deep historical and cultural ties between the two countries, enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, infrastructure, and regional security. His appointment reaffirms Namibia’s commitment to deepening regional integration and shared prosperity within the Southern African Development Community (SADC),” the Presidency said.
