NAMIBIA on Tuesday launched a N$25 million Green Hydrogen scholarship fund to improve technical understanding about the industry in the country.
The initiative was launched by Vice President Lucia Witbooi in the //Karas region.

“Given its world-class renewable energy potential in the form of abundant wind and sun resources, Namibia is in an optimal location to be a globally competitive producer of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives. “Namibia is on the cusp of transforming its economy through green hydrogen and its related industries. We have the potential to become a global hub for clean energy production, a leader in green exports,
and a beacon for sustainable industrialization on the African continent, ”Witbooi said.

According to Witbooi Namibia need to invest in her people. “Infrastructure without skills is like a car without a driver, full of potential but unable to move forward. That is why we are putting particular focus on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). This green hydrogen economy will not only need scientists and engineers, it will require technicians, welders, electricians, plumbers and safety inspectors,” she said.
The Namibian Vice President said a skilled workforce will form the backbone of Namibia’s green industrial future.

“This scholarship is for you. Your dreams, your talents, and your contributions are not only needed, but they are also essential.
“If you are a school-leaver with a passion to learn, if you are unemployed but determined to gain a skill, or if you are from a disadvantaged background and thought opportunities like these were not meant for people like you, think again. This is your time,”
She said.
