Namibia maintains 3.5 percent inflation rate over 12 months

NAMIBIAN consumers have been experiencing an increasing price and goods and services by 3.5 percent in the past 12 months.
The latest Consumer Price Index released by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) says headline inflation rate rose 3.5 percent for the 12 months ending May 2025.

This is after rising by 4.9 percent over the 12-month ending May 2024.
“The price level increased by 0.2 percent month-on-
month, similar to the previous month’s rate.

The Zonal inflation rates for the 12 months ending May 2025 revealed that Zone 3 (//Kharas, Erongo,
Hardap, Omaheke regions) recorded the highest inflation rate of 4.0 percent, higher than the
headline inflation rate,” Statistician General Alex Shimuafeni said.

Shimuafeni said Zone 1 covering Kavango East, Kavango West, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa, and Zambezi regions recorded an annual inflation rate of 3.5 percent while Zone 2 covering Khomas region recorded 3.1 percent, lower than the headline inflation rate.
MSA said core inflation stood at 4.1 percent, slightly higher than the headline inflation rate of 3.5 percent.

Core inflation describes a measure of inflation that excludes certain volatile elements from the overall inflation calculation.
