The latest statistics also show that the trade deficit continues to recede from N$3.1 billion recorded last year. “An analysis of Namibia’s trade by partner revealed that China emerged as the leading export destination, while South Africa remained the primary source of imports.

“The country’s export composition for April 2025 was concentrated in the mining sector, mostly byproducts such as Uranium, Non-monetary gold, Precious stones (diamonds), as well as ‘Ores and
concentrates of base metals’. Fish was the only non-mineral product among the top five exported goods,” Statistician General Alex Shimuafeni said.

He added that re-exports saw a decline in both the month-on-month and year-on-year comparison by a
9.3 percent and 8.2 percent, respectively.

“The re-exports basket primarily comprised of Inorganic chemical elements, ‘Ores and concentrates of base metals’, ‘Nickel ores and concentrates’, Petroleum
oils, and Precious stones (diamonds). On the other hand, the import basket mainly comprised of Petroleum oils, Motor vehicles (for commercial purposes), ‘Nickel ores and concentrates’, Motor cars
for the transportation of persons and ‘Ores and concentrates of base metals’,” he said
