THE Environmental Investment Fund (EIF) says it has created about 950 local jobs from its Green Impact

Facility (GIF) grants.

The facility  is a blended finance mechanism aimed at fostering green investments and providing essential financial support to Small and Medium Enterprises

(SMMEs).

“To date, GIF has financed over 300 loans, disbursing approximately N$94 million to both households and enterprises, and has contributed to the creation of more than 950 jobs.

“ These investments and employment impacts span key focal areas, including waste management

and recycling, renewable energy, sustainable tourism initiatives, sustainable agriculture, green

technology innovation, as well as natural resource management and value addition,” EIF said in statement on Wednesday.

The revelations come at  time Namibia is commemorating World Environment Day under the them: “Beat Plastic Pollution”

“Since its inception, the EIF has championed sustainable development by promoting

environmentally responsible practices across various economic sectors, empowering local

communities, and ensuring Namibia’s natural heritage is protected for generations to come,” EIF said.

The EIF said they have so far mobilised  over N$4 billion in environmental and climate financing,

supporting projects that enhance resilience, promote clean technologies, and conserve

biodiversity.

According to EIF said environmental levies introduced  in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism are generating N$90 million annually.

“ The EIF is currently finalizing an investment plan for the effective allocation of funds generated

through environmental levies. Key initiatives proposed in the plan include: Design and support of

prototype landfills for local authorities; Investment in mobile recycling stations to increase waste

collection efficiency; public awareness campaigns on environmental sustainability; incentive schemes for individuals who deliver plastic waste to recycling facilities,” EIF said.
