President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Modestus Amutse as the new Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, effective 2 December 2025.

The appointment follows the President’s decision to fire former minister Natangue Ithete in October.

In a statement released today, the presidency said Amutse brings extensive experience to the role. He previously served as Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, and before that as a Member of Parliament and Chairperson of a National Assembly Standing Committee. His earlier leadership roles at regional level further bolster the expertise he brings to the ministry, the Presidency said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah’s conveyed appreciation to Defence and Veterans Affairs Minister Frans Kapofi, who had been acting in the position for the past months. She thanked him for his commitment, steady leadership and support during the interim period.
The statement noted that the appointment comes at a critical moment, soon after the Regional and Local Authority Elections, where Namibians reaffirmed their trust in the Swapo Party. It said the 8th Administration is prioritising quality service delivery, accountability and the effective implementation of national goals, including the Swapo Party Election Manifesto, its Implementation Plan and the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6).
President Nandi-Ndaitwah wished Amutse success as he assumes his new responsibilities, saying he takes office at a time when Namibia is pushing industrialisation, strengthening the mining sector and advancing its energy agenda to support sustainable development across all 14 regions.
