The Social Security Commission (SSC) will increase the maximum contribution ceiling for the Maternity Leave, Sick Leave and Death Benefit (MSD) Fund from 1 September 2026, following a delay in the publication of the necessary legal amendments.
The increase was initially scheduled to take effect on 1 March 2026, but the implementation was postponed after the amendments were published later than expected in the Government Gazette. The commission said the revised contributions will not be applied retrospectively.
Under the new contribution threshold, employees earning a basic salary of N$12,500 or more per month will now contribute the maximum N$112.50 per month, up from the previous cap of N$99.
Employees earning between N$501 and N$12,499 will continue to contribute 0.9% of their basic salary, while those earning N$500 or less will continue paying N$4.50 per month.
The changes form part of amendments to the Social Security Act (Act No. 34 of 1994) and will be implemented progressively over the next four financial years.
