The newly inaugurated Ankit Gems Namibia Diamond Cutting and Polishing Factory will employ more than 148 people,  most of them Namibians.

Acting Minister of Industries Mines and Energy Frans Kapofi while reading a speech on behalf of President  Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah last week described the factory as  a “pivotal moment” for the country’s diamond sector.

“This factory employs over 148 Namibians. It comes at the right time as we work to reduce youth unemployment and grow our manufacturing base,” Kapofi  said.

He praised the investment by Ankit Gems Namibia (Pty) Ltd, describing it as proof of investor confidence in Namibia’s economy. “This project shows our country’s potential and our commitment to creating a conducive environment for investors,” she said.

The new factory, equipped with world-class diamond cutting technology, will strengthen local skills and ensure Namibians take part in the entire diamond value chain.

“By adding value locally, we transfer critical skills, build technology, and diversify our economy,” Nandi-Ndaitwa said.

The facility will also export polished diamonds to markets in Europe, Asia, and the United States, using digital platforms to sell directly online.

Nandi-Ndaitwah urged more investors to follow Ankit Gems’ example. “Namibia is open for business. We invite more partners to add value to our natural resources and create jobs for our people,” she said.

The plant supports the government’s Vision 2030 and National Development Plan 6, both of which aim to grow industries and reduce unemployment through local value addition.
