Consumers in //Kharas, Erongo, Hardap, and Omaheke regions are paying more for maize meals compared to everyone else in the country.

This is according to the latest inflation figures released by the Namibia Statistics Agency on Thursday.

According to the latest NSA figures, the annual inflation rate for March 2026, stood at 2.1 percent, compared to 4.2 percent recorded in March 2025. 

The NSA said on a monthly basis, inflation stood at 0.2 percent, from 0.0 percent observed in the previous month. Core inflation stood at 2.9 percent, higher than the headline inflation rate.

According to NSA an analysis of average retail prices for selected products in March 2026, revealed that consumers in Zone 3 paid the highest price for Maize meals (5 kg) at N$69.74, followed by Zone 2 at N$69.22, while Zone 1 consumers paid the lowest price at N$66.96. 

Moreover, Zone 1 consumers paid the highest for Biltong (per kg) at N$ 525.87, followed by Zone 2 at N$500.83, while Zone 3 consumers paid the lowest price at N$408.32.

The zonal inflation rates for the period under review revealed that Zone 2 (Khomas region) registered the highest annual inflation rate at 3.2 percent, followed by Zone 3 (//Kharas, Erongo, Hardap, and Omaheke regions) at 2.0 percent.

 Zone 1(Kavango East, Kavango West, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Otjozondjupa, and Zambezi regions) recorded the lowest annual inflation rate at 1.0 percent, NSA said. 

“Further analysis shows that the inflation rate for Zone 2 is higher than the national average of 2.1 percent while the inflation rate for Zone 3 and Zone 3 trended below the national average,” Statistician General Alex Shimuafeni said.
