Minister of Home Affairs Immigration Safety and Security Lucia Iipumbu says Namibia is making progress in amending the immigration control act to improve and smoothen visa and permit applications process for high value investors wishing to set up in Namibia.

Speaking on a panel discussion at the Namibia-EU business forum on Wednesday Iipumbu the current act does not accommodate the five year business visa.

“We are already in the process of amending the act to make sure that we include the five year visa as well as make the application process for visa and work permits easy in future,” Iipumbu said.

Her sentiments come a few months after President Netumbo Nandi Ndaitwah called for a smoother ed and better visa regime that has potential to attract investors to Namibia.

Nandi-Ndaitwah last year said the  is part of a package of measures to transform Namibia into a more competitive and investor-friendly destination.

Namibia announced the introduction of five-year visas for “serious” foreign investors as part of a broader, aggressive economic reform aimed at boosting long-term investment, boosting competitiveness, and reducing bureaucratic hurdles.

The initiative is aimed at helping “serious investors” and high-value foreign business owners to settle in Namibia as compared to casual business visitors.

This initiative is part of wider changes to the visa regime, which include digitizing services and improving efficiency at the Hosea Kutako International Airport to handle increased demand.
