Bank of Namibia Deputy Governor Leonie Dunn has been appointed to the global Board of Directors of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), for the term September 2025 to September 2027.
The central bank acknowledged her appointment in a statement on Wednesday saying the achievement marks a significant milestone in Namibia’s journey as a leader in inclusive finance and reflects the country’s growing influence in shaping global financial inclusion policy.
The apex bank said the appointment was ratified and confirmed at the 2025 AFI Annual General Meeting (AGM) which took place on 3 September 2025, during the AFI Global Policy Forum (GPF). Ms. Dunn will represent the Bank on the AFI Board as stipulated in Article 18 of the AFI Articles of Association.
The AFI Board of Directors serves as the apex governance body of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, setting the strategic direction of the network, ensuring institutional accountability, and guiding global policy discussions to advance financial inclusion.
The Board comprises high-level representatives from member institutions, including central banks and regulatory authorities, and plays a critical role in shaping initiatives that promote access to responsible, inclusive financial services for the unbanked and underserved populations across the globe.
This announcement follows the recently concluded AFI Global Policy Forum, hosted in Swakopmund, Namibia, from 2–5 September 2025, Bank of Namibia said.
The Forum convened policymakers, regulators, and thought leaders worldwide to exchange experiences, shape policy, and advance inclusive finance as a catalyst for economic growth. A key outcome was the Swakopmund Call to Action on Empowering Societies and Enabling Public Growth through Inclusive Finance, which was presented to and endorsed by the Membership Council during the Forum.
Commenting on her appointment, Deputy Governor Leonie Dunn said she is keen to contribute to the global financial agenda of pushing inclusion forward.
“This is not only a personal honour but a significant responsibility. I am humbled by the opportunity to contribute to the global financial inclusion agenda through AFI’s distinguished platform. The appointment recognises Namibia’s commitment to ensuring that financial systems work for all people, especially the excluded and underserved.,” she said
The Bank of Namibia said they remain committed to fostering inclusive, stable, and sustainable financial systems. This latest appointment reflects its unwavering dedication to global collaboration, innovation, and inclusive economic growth.
