President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged her Cabinet to deliver without giving excuses on promises made to Namibians.
Speaking at the last cabinet meeting of the year at state house on Tuesday Nandi-Ndaitwah said the nation’s expectations leave “no excuse for us not to succeed.”
The President reflected on the nine months since ministers took office, saying the pace of time underscores the weight of public responsibility.
“It seems just like yesterday when you stood before the nation to take your oat… That reminds us how quickly time moves when we are entrusted with great responsibility,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah praised the Cabinet for embracing demanding roles “with humility, discipline, and a willingness to learn,” adding that teamwork and shared responsibility have strengthened progress across the seven national priority areas.
She said the recent Cabinet Retreat reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to “policy coordination, governance, and service delivery for accelerated national development.”
Emphasising the roles of Political Heads and Executive Directors, she said that respecting constitutional boundaries “strengthens accountability” and improves service delivery.
The President directed all institutions to complete the establishment or upgrading of their Monitoring and Evaluation Units by the first quarter of 2026, noting that effective tracking of progress is essential to achieving NDP6 targets.
“Impactful governance requires disciplined tracking of progress, early detection of delays, and the ability to adjust course where needed,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
She further called for streamlined procurement, noting that fixing medication procurement bottlenecks has shown that “with proper coordination and discipline, long-standing challenges can indeed be corrected.”
Looking to the new year, the President demanded stronger coordination across all levels of government to boost investment, job creation and industrialisation.
“The acceleration of implementation must produce measurable results,” Nandi-Ndaitwah said, adding that public service systems must be modernised and youth and women must participate meaningfully in the economy.
Nandi-Ndaitwah encouraged them to rest but stay connected to the realities of citizens.
“Wherever your travels may take you this festive period, if you pass by a capital project, take a moment to stop and assess the progress. True leadership is found in presence, humility, and the willingness to engage directly with the work that shapes our people’s lives,” she said.
