President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed Nicholas Mukasa as the second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Namibia.
The appointment is effective 1 May 2026.
The Bank of Namibia Mukasa’s appointment represents a strategic step that underscores the institution’s commitment to transformation, positioning it as a credible and forward-looking central bank.
Mukasa will play a pivotal part in supporting the Governor in shaping the Bank’s strategic direction.
His leadership will be instrumental in articulating and driving a transformative institutional agenda to align the central bank with the dynamic economy, the central bank said .
Governor of the Bank of Namibia Ebson Uanguta, said Mukusa’s appointment could not be more timely as we continue to build a knowledge-based institution. “His extensive expertise in financial markets and policy implementation will be crucial in guiding the Bank through this pivotal phase. Together, we will adapt to the evolving economy, strengthen our internal capabilities, and sharpen and update our monetary policy framework and liquidity management tools, thereby positioning the Bank for future success,” Uanguta said.
Prior to his appointment Mukasa served as Director of Financial Markets at the Bank of Namibia, where he was responsible for managing the country’s foreign exchange reserves, implementing monetary policy decisions, and overseeing government domestic debt issuance.
He also served on both the Bank’s Management Committee and Monetary Policy Committee, contributing to key decisions underpinning Namibia’s macroeconomic stability and financial sector development.
Mukasa brings close to two decades of experience in financial markets, investment management, and risk analysis. Since joining the Bank of Namibia in 2011 as a Risk Analyst, he has held several senior roles, including Portfolio Manager, Portfolio Risk Manager, and Deputy Director for Compliance and Risk Analytics, before being appointed Director of Financial Markets in 2016.
Before entering central banking, he gained private sector experience in stockbroking and asset management with Namibia Equity Brokers and Prudential PortfolioManagers Namibia, as well as earlier exposure in the aviation and retail sectors.
He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Namibia and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. His executive education includes the Senior Management Development Programme at Stellenbosch University and the General Management Programme at Harvard Business School, complemented by additional postgraduate training and specialised courses in investment and risk
management.
