NamPost Manager for Marketing and Corporate Communications Gladwin Groenewaldt says social grant recipients will receive their payments from October with the  option to withdraw at any  NamPost Post Offices and mobile branches.

A statement released by Nampost on Wednesday said they are ready to roll out the National Social Welfare Cash Grant .

This program does not include grant recipients that are receiving their grants through banks, or other financial institutions, Groenewaldt said.

“ Pertaining to operational readiness, NamPost is at an advanced stage to finalise the upgrade to our payment systems, to enable both in-branch (Post Office) and out-of-branch (mobile teams) payment operations.  Furthermore, NamPost is committed to capacitate our high-volume branches with additional service points and front-line staff,” he said.

Groenewaldt said NamPost will deploy mobile teams to ensure accessibility, continuity and timeous operations for grant recipients residing in remote areas and far from a NamPost Post Office.

“Additionally, to ensure safe and secure cash payments at remote payout points, mobile teams will be accompanied by well-trained Cash-In-Transit Security personnel,” Groenewaldt said.

Groenewaldt said NamPost will roll out the grant distribution exercise in phases.

“During the first phase, beneficiaries will be registered on secure virtual cash grant accounts through which they will receive their monthly grants.Grant beneficiaries should provide a national identity document or passport to register for grant payments.

“During the second phase, starting early in 2026, NamPost in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance (MOF), will provide beneficiaries with the option to migrate to a Digital Grant Account, which will be Instant Payment Systems (IPS) ready, enabled with biometrics authentication, and fully compliant with banking regulations,” he said.

Groenewaldt said consultations with the Bank of Namibia are underway to ensure that all NamPost accounts are interoperable with the IPS.

“Stakeholder engagements with the Ministry of Finance and Local Councilors are scheduled to commence on 1st September 2025. In addition, an extensive joint national awareness communication campaign covering important information, registration process and payment schedules is expected to be carried out on various communication platforms. NamPost will utilize its in-branch (Post Office) customer feedback and toll-free helplines to receive feedback,” he said.
