President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will travel to Angola for the inaugural Angola-Namibia Bi-National Commission .
Nandi-Ndaitwah undertook a state visit to Luanda, Angola, from 18 to 20 October and attended the inaugural Angola-Namibia Bi-National Commission (BNC).
The inaugural session marks a significant milestone in strengthening bilateral relations and advancing cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The BNC gives effect to a decision of the fifth Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC) to elevate bilateral cooperation to a mechanism co-chaired by President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and His Excellency João Lourenço, President of Angola.
A statement released by the Press Secretary Jonas Mbambo on Wednesday said the inaugural BNC will provide a high-level platform for the two governments to review progress in bilateral cooperation, address outstanding matters of mutual
interest and agree on practical measures to advance shared development priorities.
“Key areas of cooperation include agriculture, trade and investment; transboundary energy, water, transport and cross-border infrastructure projects; defence and security; and border and immigration management,” Mbambo said.
President Nandi-Ndaitwah is also expected to address the National Assembly of Angola and visit the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial Park.
The BNC will culminate in a Heads of State Summit on 19 October 2026, preceded by a Ministerial Session on 18 October 2026.
The Ministerial Session will be co-chaired by Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Trade, and Téte António, Angola’s Minister of External Relations.
A Senior Officials’ Meeting will take place on 15 and 16 October 2026. It will be co- chaired by Jerobeam Shaanika, Executive Director of Namibia’s Ministry of International Relations and Trade, and Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopez, Director of Africa, Middle East and International Organizations in Angola’s Ministry of External Relations.
The programme will also include the Angola-Namibia Business Forum on 19 October 2026, providing a platform to strengthen economic ties and promote trade and investment. Ninety-five Namibian businesses have expressed interest in participating in the forum and its business-to-business engagements.
