The Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi has fired five members of the Board of Directors of the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) of their duties
Those affected are Elizabeth Renay Peterson, Lucien Lleweyllyn Mouton, Matheus //Gowaseb, Carol Rosheta Williams and Ferdinand Nghiyolwa.
Nekundi also appointed an interim board to ensure continuity and stability at the entity, the ministry said in a statement released.
The interim appointees are Otniel Podewitz who will serve as Deputy Chairperson, Sophia Kasera , Phillip Iifo, Loide Ekandjo, Natacha Kasera-Kandombo.
Nekundi said he acted in strict compliance with Articles 40(a) and 41 of the Namibian Constitution, which outline the executive functions of Ministers.
“The action was further taken in accordance with Section 228 of the Companies Act (Act 28 of 2004) and Article 18 of the Constitution, which require all administrative bodies and officials to exercise their powers fairly, reasonably, and within the bounds of the law,” the statement said.
Nekundi said his unwavering commitment to ensuring that all entities under the Ministry of Works and Transport (MWT) portfolio adhere to the highest standards
of corporate governance.
“The stewardship of public resources demands accountability and transparency at every level. The appointment of an interim board ensures seamless continuity of operations while we reinforce the governance structures required for effective service delivery,” Nekundi said.
