The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in South Africa this week announced that Namibia’s third First Lady, Monica Geingos, will be awarded an honorary doctorate, Future Media  reports.

Geingos has been selected in recognition of her globally acknowledged advocacy for health equity and her efforts to transform public leadership into a vehicle for meaningful action.

Geingos is amongst many other global and national leaders that will receive honorary doctorates on the 16th of March 2026 at the graduation ceremony of 13 125 graduates.

“Through the One Economy Foundation and the #BeFree Movement, she has confronted youth vulnerability, HIV stigma and structural inequality with bold, evidence-driven interventions,” UJ indicated in a media release on Tuesday.

The honorary degree will be conferred in acknowledgement of Geingos’ work as a UNAIDS Special Advocate and her role as an international champion for equitable access to treatment and prevention.

Her impact spans the African continent and extends into the sphere of global health diplomacy.
