President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has bemoaned the lack of specialized  skills needed to exploit the country’s oil and gas resources locally saying such a challenge might hamper the country’s ability to benefit fully from natural resources.

Speaking at the official inauguration of Ndoro memorial school in the Zambezi region Nandi -Ndaitwah said the government said the government is committed to making sure that schools are adequately equipped for the benefit of learners.

“Namibi has abundant natural resources, particularly the significant recent discoveries of oil and gas, which offer immense potential for national development. Bbe However, a critical challenge remains the current deficit in specialised skills required to fully leverage these resources for the country’s benefit,” she said.

The President said the recent oil and gas discoveries underscore an urgent need for a skilled workforce to facilitate efficient extraction, processing, and value addition within the country.

“  I advise you, as learners, to consider pursuing academic and vocational fields that focus on natural resource extraction, engineering, environmental management, and related areas in order to contribute directly to Namibia’s economic transformation and maximise the benefits from our natural resources,” she said .

Nandi-Ndaitwah encouraged learners to take advantage of the free education model offered in Namibia to improve themselves.

“in  my State of the Nation Address, I have announced that come the 2026 academic year, education will be free at all Government institutions of higher learning. This was not just an announcement, it is the Government’s commitment to ensure that every Namibian child has an equal opportunity to pursue higher education and contribute meaningfully to our country’s development,” she said
