The Bank of Namibia hosted a training workshop for business and financial journalists on Monday to sharpen their reporting in the craft.

The central bank said the workshop was  aimed at  enhancing Business Reporting skills of Media practitioners within the industry and   raise awareness on the circulation of counterfeit Bank notes.

According to the central apex bank   the N$200 note is  the most duplicated of the Namibian currencies

Speaking at the event, Bank of Namibia Senior Protection Officer in the Currency Management and Banking Operations (CMBO), Lonia Nampunda said the security features used on the local currency are tamper proof. “The security features of the bank note are strong and are made at an international standard,” she said.

She added that measures have been put  in place to ensure that Namibia’s currency does not get flooded by the counterfeit notes.

“ With a declining trend in the counterfeit bank notes security features such as Securicoat vanis, optical variation ink (OVI) and Janus color-shifting window security threads are some of the features that are put in place to ensure that original bank notes and counterfeit bank notes are differentiated,” she said.

According to Nampunda Namibia has done relatively well recording  less than 10 counterfeit notes per million in circulation.
