President Nandi-Ndaitwah told the Ministry of Industry Mines and Energy staff on Monday that the work of the ministry does not revolve around one person but is  a collective responsibility.

She was engaging the ministry’s staff after taking over its  overall management.

Nandi-Ndaitwah fired the then responsible minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Natangue Ithete  on Sunday without giving reasons.

She immediately  brought the ministry under her wing in what she described as managing continuity.

“I have taken responsibility for this Ministry to ensure stability, renewed focus and a stronger sense of purpose. But as I do so, I want to make it clear that this Ministry does not depend on one person. It depends on all of us, working together with dedication and unity,” she said.

The President urged employees to recognize their importance within the institution, noting that every task no matter how small adds value to the country’s development goals. “There is no such thing as a small job in public service. Whether you are a cleaner, driver, receptionist, or administrator, you are part of a larger purpose,” Nandi-Ndaitwa  said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah challenged staff to show leadership in their daily responsibilities. “Leadership is not about position. It is about attitude, responsibility, and consistency. Lead from where you are through your example, your discipline, and the quality of your work,” she said.

She reaffirmed that her administration’s approach would not be “business as usual,” reiterating her commitment to improved efficiency, accountability, and a people-centered public service.

“When I took the Oath of Office on 21 March 2025, I promised to do things differently. That was not a slogan, it was a commitment to raising the standard of public service across government,” she said.

The President encouraged staff to stay motivated and dedicated, describing change as an opportunity for renewal rather than disruption. “Change can be uncomfortable, but it is not meant to unsettle you. It is meant to strengthen us and remind us why we serve,” she said.

Nandi-Ndaitwah also emphasised the importance of teamwork in achieving Namibia’s economic goals. She reminded the audience that industrial growth is essential for job creation and poverty reduction, and that success in this mission relies on unity and cooperation within the Ministry.

“We can only create jobs and take our people out of poverty when we build a strong industrial economy base,” she said. “That work starts here with all of us pulling in the same direction.”

“Let us give our best, go the extra mile, and let our actions speak for us,” she said. “Together, we can show that this Ministry stands as a pillar of hope, a place where public service truly works for the people of Namibia.”
