Namibia is banking on the full commitment of investors from the oil and gas industry as well as the  morphing green hydrogen industry to raise the N$506 billion needed to drive the National Development Plan six (NDP6) in the next four years.

National Planning Commission Executive Director I- Ben Nashaandi told Namibia Business Review at the sidelines of the launch of the Commission’s five year strategic plan on Thursday that  the government alone will not be able to finance the NDP6 goals and the private sector needs to come to the party.

“It is very important to note that the government should not be in the space for creating jobs ,.Rather the private sector needs to play a meaningful role. We are keenly looking for oil companies as well as those in the green hydrogen industry to make a full commitment and you will see how soon the jobs will be created. That N$506 billion needed within the next four years is not hinged on government revenue alone but on the expectations that the private sector play their part,” he said.

The country’s financial needs were revealed by Prime Minister Eklijah Ngurare this week while speaking at the launch of the Government Institution Pension Fund (GIPF) strategic plan

He said the ND6 6 is anchored under the four pillars of ,economic growth, transformation and resilience,  human development and community resilience, environmental sustainability  and effective governance and public service delivery. “ Like any plan, it provides us with a clear roadmap on where to drive the National Planning Commission, and its stakeholders, for whom we are there to serve. So, this plan will be subject to reviews periodically, to assess its success,” Nashadi said.Nashandi said the government has laid down strict monitoring and evaluation processes across all participating ministries as well as government agencies to make sure the strategic plan is achieved.

“There can be no easy plan. There can however be quick outcomes.I wish to reiterate the values that underpins our Strategic Plan. These are Integrity, Professionalism, Transparency, Collaboration, Innovation and Accountability. These values need to live in NPC every single day, and in each and every action,” he said..
