Taxi and bus fares in Namibia will increase by 15% from 18 May 2026, following approval by the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Road Transportation Board of Namibia.

In a statement released today, Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi said the increase comes after continued fuel price hikes, rising vehicle maintenance costs, and requests from transport operators who say they are struggling to keep operating costs down.

“The new taxi fare will increase from N$13 to N$15 nationwide,” he said.

The government said the last fare increase was approved in 2022, despite fuel prices and operational costs continuing to rise over the years. Officials also revealed that transport associations had initially requested a 30% increase.

The ministry says the adjustment aims to balance the needs of commuters while helping taxi and bus operators remain sustainable.
