President Netiumbo Nandi-Ndaitwa has appointed former Presidential Affairs Minister Christine //Hoebes as the High Commissioner-Designate to the Federal Government of Malaysia.
The announcement was made on Tuesday.
“By this appointment, you become my representative and that of the Government and the people of Namibia. You are entrusted with safeguarding Namibia’s sovereignty, promoting our national interests and advancing our country’s development agenda,” Nandi- Ndaiwah said.
She said the appointment of //Hoebes reflects confidence placed in her integrity, Nandi-Ndaitwah said //Hoebes duty is to protect and advance Namibia’s national interests and its people.
“Malaysia has been a valued development partner to Namibia, particularly in the fields of higher education, technical training and capacity building,” she said.
The President said economic cooperation between Namibia and Malaysia continues to grow steadily.
“There are also significant opportunities for enhanced collaboration in renewable energy, oil and gas services, logistics, ports development, green industrialisation, tourism promotion among others,” she said.
The President added that //Hoebes should focus on translating the longstanding between the two countries into tangible economic opportunities.
