NSA appoints Tjizake as deputy Statistician General

The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) has appointed Israel Tjizake as the new Deputy Statistician-General (DSG), effective 01 May 2026.

Tjizake replaced Ottilie Mwazi who went on retirement on 31 March 2026.

The NSA said in a statement  on Tuesday that Tjizake brings over 25 years of postgraduate professional experience in development practice, spanning from government, the United Nations, and academia. 

He has provided extensive technical support to government institutions and non-governmental organizations, with a strong focus on demography, statistics, and results-based policy development at national, sectoral, and organizational levels. His expertise further includes management policy analysis, programme design in population and social development, organizational change and development, as well as leadership, management, and team building.

Tjizake is a trained demographer and statistician, holding a Master’s degree in Population Studies and Human Resources, complemented by training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Economics. 

He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Mathematics, Statistics, and Economics, has completed coursework toward a Master’s degree in Public Health, and has undertaken several specialized short courses. Furthermore, he holds multiple professional certifications in Results-Based Management (RBM), Project Management, and GIS.

Tjizake will support the Statistician-General in overseeing the Agency’s core statistical operations , advancing innovation in data production, as well as ensuring alignment with national, regional and international statistical standards. He will also play a key role in driving the implementation of key initiatives, including the modernisation of statistical systems and the promotion of evidence-based decision-making across sectors.
