Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme Head, James Mnyupe has urged young people to strategically position themselves to reap opportunities offered by the country’ green hydrogen and oil and gas industries which are in their formative stages in the country.

Speaking at the certificate handover ceremony to  Youth Green Hydrogen Ambassadors on Friday Mnyupe said despite hyped  skepticism around the potential that the green hydrogen industry presents for the local folk , there are numerous opportunities that can be accrued for the Namibian economy.

“Do we actually have a clue on when the next molecule will be produced?, perhaps not, but that does not mean we should not try? Imagine the potential of Namibia producing green hydrogen molecules for itself and not importing from South Africa. There is a project that is planning to grow cactus in the Southern region for export. This presents an opportunity for collaborative efforts with the industry and looks at the potential of producing jet fuel in Namibia for export. Imagine the opportunities presented by such,” he said.Mnyupe urged young people to take the challenge of learning about the industry and capitalize on opportunities that are available in the industry.

He said the youth ambassadors will play a vital role in engaging societies on the benefits of the green hydrogen in their respective regions.

The Youth Hydrogen Ambassadors were chosen from Namibia’s 14 regions.

Speaking at the same event Hyphen Hydrogen Energy Chief Executive of Officer Marco Raffinetti encouraged Youth Hydrogen Ambassadors to seize opportunities offered in the green hydrogen industry including educational scholarships, community projects to better their participation and understanding in the industry.

“We are very glad to be standing here to witness this coming to reality. It has been a lot of work put into this. The realistic opportunities afforded to the youth in this industry are immense and can change lives for many. Many of you should take opportunities like these and improve your influence on the industry,” he said.

GIZ Namibia Head of Project – Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen in Namibia Simon Inauen said  the Green Hydrogen Youth Ambassador Programme that started as an idea six months ago but  has now morphed into a promising project that will improve youth participation in the green hydrogen industry.

Inanuen said the programme presents a lot of opportunities for growth to Namibian youths.

GIZ Namibia Technical Advisor : Green Hydrogen Business Alliance Suzie Shefeni says the Green Hydrogen Youth Ambassadors went through a rigorous five day training to better their understanding in the industry.

Sheefeni congratulated the Youth Ambassadors for their eagerness to learn about the country’s synthetic energy industry. The Youth Ambassadors were chosen from the country’s 14 regions and will be the conveyor belts of information on the green hydrogen industry to their different communities. They were conferred with certificates of participation after completing their training on Friday.
